With John Anderson
SUNDAY MORNINGS AT 7AM EST
John Anderson, host of the “On The Horizon” show, began
with independent music four years ago while producing a
segment called “Idiots of the Week”. This segment pre-empted
the New Artist Radio Top 40 show for nearly three years. In
2003, in its final year, “Idiots of the Week” won the award for
“Internet Radio show of the Year” by New Artist Radio.
Knowing it was time for something different, John
suspended production due to increasingly dwindling show
content, and decided to take on something completely different.
In July 2003, “On The Horizon” (OTH) was born. Playing
independent music, outrageously funny commercials, and
performing interviews with independent artists had became
the shows main content. The delivery has always been about
attitude, and a lot of it! Two months ago, OTH went to war
against the established Mainstream Media, carrying the fight
directly to the “enemy”. This gave birth to the “Mainstream
Update”, carried each week on the show along with the
newer version of “Idiots of the Week”. The latest version of
“Idiots of the Week” is now carried on several other networks
independently of OTH.
OTH keeps and holds true to four basic rules:
1) Sit down and relax.
2) Clear your mind.
3) Have adult beverage on hand (unless you are underage,
then you have to find something legal).
4) Laugh like hell!
OTH has enjoyed great expansion opportunities since January of
this year, and is now heard on six internet radio stations, as well as a FM
station, and AM station in the United Kingdom. Keeping with the formula that has
carried its success, OTH garners increasing popularity in Europe, and expanding
into Canada as well.
Germany’s popular promoter/DJ Lord Litter had this to say about
OTH:
“Your show in keeping with independent music is an excellent
alternative to the present establishment of entertainment. Most
stations in playing Buster Rhymes, is only an alternative to
playing Brittany Spears, no more…………”
“ ……….this show has a lot of attitude. And I like it!”
Part of the popularity has been through the “feud” with
its sister show, “Independent Nation” with Bruce Horne
and Paul Smith. Off the air, both programs have a wonderful
working relationship. On the air, is an entirely different matter!
Both sides playing the other, has made for an interesting draw
from week to week with the audience listening to both shows
to see what is going to happen next!
OTH is making famous its by-line, “Major League kicking is
back in town!” around the world.
The On The Horizon radio show now has a website! Take a peak at the website
