Day of Silence: Ready to Go! »

Day of Silence: To Be Discussed

June 19th, 2007

The proposed “Day of Silence” for internet broadcasters will be Tuesday, June 26. The “Day of Silence” is going to be an act of thousands of internet radio stations regarding the new Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) rates that will put most internet radio stations out of business.

This “Day of Silence” is an encore of a successful media event that small webcasters organized on May 1, 2002 in response to a similarly royalty rate ruling from a Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel (CARP) five years ago. (Kurt Hanson, RAIN Newsletter)

Since March 2007, many internet radio stations, including this station, is thinking about what will happen in the future. Many online radio networks will be in the act of protest, including Pandora, our ex-network Live365, our website hosting company Yahoo with their LaunchCast service, MTV online, and many National Public Radio (NPR) stations. Even our new Radio Amber alert system for internet radio stations will be down in act by “if the new rates approve, the announcement will be rendered useless.”

“It is uncertain if WRAJ Internet Radio will be able to afford at $250 per listener for the entire year. This station reaches over 70 listeners a day, and we don’t have enough money to pay nearly $10 an hour during the work hours throughout the year. We are doing calculations, if the new rates approve, of the maximum listeners would be able to listen to WRAJ.” (Anthony Zaragoza, President, WRAJ Internet Radio/Jenthony Enterprises, Inc.)

For the day of silence, WRAJ Internet Radio will be discussing if we should hold our music programming on Tuesday. The times would be from 8AM to 8PM EST. During the twelve hours, a special presentation of “Where the Music Won’t Come Alive: Internet Radio” hosted by Anthony Zaragoza. The name comes from WRAJ Internet Radio’s famous slogan, “Where The Music Comes Alive” The presentation will be on WRAJ Internet Radio and looped for the entire day. We are discussing with other internet radio stations if they want to syndicate the program, the show will be ready by Monday. During the show, we are hoping to have interviews with our personalities from our syndicated shows, especially Ray Gauthier and Adrian Scott with their well-known internet radio program 80’s Meltdown.

“We will be encouraging our listeners to call their representatives throughout the program. We also want to bring our own staff members, old and new, about their experience at WRAJ and how it will affect about the new CRB rates.” (Anthony Zaragoza, President, WRAJ Internet Radio/Jenthony Enterprises, Inc.)

By tonight, we will be announcing our final plans of the June 26 plan of “Day of Silence.”
