Letter from GM About Day of Silence

July 1st, 2007

We apologize to our listeners that on Tuesday, June 26 that you were unable to listen to our station. We shut off our regular programming to bring you special programming of the “Day of Silence,” in act of protest against the new royalty rates for the music we are everyday on the station.

With the rise of the royalty rates, we would be unable to afford the new rates, retroactively from 2006 to 2010. In May, two senators established an act called the Internet Radio Equality Act. Today, there are hundreds of congressmen and several senators that currently supports the act.

However, we would like to thank all of our listeners who contacted their senators and representatives regarding the issue and reminding them to sponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act.

On the Day of Silence, Savenetradio.org, the organization who established the day of silence, had so many users on the site that it was crashing because of all the access activity. Not only savenetradio.org crashed, but also for the switchboard of the congressmen and senators, according to the Radio and Internet Newsletter (RAIN), which callers tell their representative or senator them to sign the Internet Radio Equality Act.

And on the “Day of Silence,” internet radio stations made headlines on AP, Washington Post, NBC News, CNN, ABC News, Forbes, Los Angeles Times, and more.

And once again, i would like to thank all of our listeners and supporters for a a great success, I hope to keep all of the information up to date on this site.
